[atrb=border,0,true][cs=7][bg=421D1D] the WORDS 589 the KIT Leaftail the FRIEND No one yet the NOTES hunt~
Leaftail had managed to get away from camp without being struck by one of the FireClan tom cats. She was lucky; luckier than Poppyclaw anyway. Such disrespect Animal had for calling her old. Poppyclaw was a respected and loved cat, and the mate of the late and great Crowstar! Animal had no right to call her old. Sure, she was old enough to be his mother, and was a grandmother, but she was still a warrior, and a proud one at that.
Leaftail had also been more lucky than the late Dreambreaker. She'd seen how distraught Berry was at her mate's death. Ash shouldn't have killed him. The kit was an orphan, even if Flameshade had taken him in. Poor Berry, poor Dreambreaker, poor Dolphinfeet, poor Bluekit. Poor everyone really, for having to deal with the FireClanners.
Leaftail sighed as she padded along the Twoleg Path. She'd told Shadestar and some other warriors she was to go out hunting, and she hoped someone would join her... Mostly Shadestar. He was nice to talk to, kinda cute too. Now she thought about it, she doubt he'd trust another she-cat after what Morningcloud had done to him. Leaftail had been confused at the queen. Why couldn't she have kept the father secret and not mated with Shadestar? Not that Leaftail would ever do that; no. It was against the warrior code to have more than one mate at a time... wasn't it?
Leaftail's auds pricked forward as she heard a rustle. The tabby femme lowered her brown body into a crouch, and followed the sound. she scented the air. She didn't know what the scent was. Not mouse, nor squirrel, nor lizard... She placed a paw forward, and scented again. Not a rabbit, nor sparrow, nor blackbird... No, it was nothing she'd ever scented before. The little tiger crept forward, and the creature came into view. Her brown eyes peered at it in curiousity. She cocked her head to one side, and studied it.
What could it be? Leaftail had never seen such a thing before. It was as small as a cat, and had the face of a dog. It had a leash upon it's neck, and from that leash came a string, and... Oh dear. A twoleg. It had spotted her, and was walking towards her. There was something in it's hand. It smelled good. The twoleg dropped the bit of meat in front of her, and it's face twisted into some sort of pained grimace.
Then it left. Leaftail cautiously sniffed the meat, watching it as if it were alive. She didn't know what to do. She'd smelled poison stuff before, but didn't smell it on this. She took another ginger step forward, and took a big smell of the chunk. It smelled nice, good. Carefully, Leaftail took a lick. Odd, it was. She bit into it, tasting it again. She tore of a little bit, and ate it. It was good!.. But how was she to get it back to camp? It was quite the piece of kill... yes. She sat by it and waved her tail. The mere sight of it made her stomach grumble; no. She couldn't. Shadestar, Redeyes, the queens and the elders were to be fed first, then the apprentice, then the harlots and FireClanners, then the warriors. Not that the FireClanners needed feeding. If they caught anything they had probably ate it. |
