Cloudrunner was down by the lake, looking for any herbs. He'd wanted to get out of camp ever since he'd smelled that smell... the smell of rain. That could only mean one thing - Newleaf was coming! It had taken long enough, but he had a feeling that it wasn't just how the weather was acting. He pushed that thought out of his mind.
Quietly, he pawed at the lake weeds, looking for anything that might be useful. No, no, no. Is there anything here? Where did it all go? Right, it left when I went to Riverclan. He flicked his tail and moved on. He was tired, he'd been up for nearly two nights, and the journey to the Moonpool had taken a lot out of him. Not to mention he then had traveled to Thunderclan and back, all after the gathering.
Padding closer to the lake, he nudged asides ome more lake weeds, and found a few stems of horsetail. He pulled them out, and, fairly sure that he wouldn't find much more, headed back to camp. He bounded across the moors, desperate to get back to camp, and maybe finally get some sleep. Once he got close, he slowed down, walking the rest of the way.
He entered camp, and it still looked a little bit different. He was so used to stepping out and getting a fish. Although, he was probably the best fed cat here, with Riverclan having so much more prey that the other clans. He guessed some cats were envious, and he felt bad for them, but... it was his duty to stand apart from clan rivalries and help Riverclan.
He was a few tail lengths in front of his den, when he toppled over. He fell to the ground, and blacked out.
He heard a voice, harsh and husky. Not a regular Starclan voice, with their sweet melodic words. He didn't dare open his eyes, and listened. The voice said:
The Shadow of a River runs high,
listen closely, or else the clans shall surely die.
Shadows burn bright with flames,
the river will not put out.
His eyes blinked open, and he stood up. There were a few cats around him, but he flicked his tail, motioning for them to go. How did Starclan send this sign? It was Starclan. And, of all of the things that they could have done, why not send Nightstar? Wait, I'm getting ahead of myself. He padded back to his den, and sat down, trying to clear his dizzy head.
The Shadow of a River runs high. Does that mean that Shadowclan and Riverclan have an alliance? It sounds that way, but... it doesn't make sense. Wouldn't I know? Listen closely, or else the clans will surely die. That's obvoius, but... why have it? Just to make it rhyme? It's too esay to decipher... Shadows burn bright with flames. That must be the Shadowclan Fireclan alliance. Yeah, that makes sense. The river will not put out. Is Starclan saying that Riverclan won't help us? Why is this so easy to figure out. I mean, it must be hard, because what I just thought up can't be true. I was in Riverclan. I would know. So what does this mean?
Slowly, he rose to his feet. He needed to go talk to Orangestar. Quickly, he padded into the leader's den.
Oarangestar, we should talk about this...
