Cloudrunner was anxious about the battle. It wasn't so much the cats getting hurt he was worried about - it was not being able to heal them. Fireclan had stolen most of their herbs, and scent-marked the others. All that was left was a meager supply, and that wouldn't last long. He decided that it was time to send out Owlpaw. He'd already talked to Milkystar, and Owlpaw had won his own worthy opinion... all that was left was Starclan to approve of him. No doubt they would, but he needed to prove himself first. This would be a good opportunity.
"Owlpaw!" he summoned. The young cat came out of the den immediatly, as if already destined to complete his mission with ease. It wouldn't be easy for his apprentice without him, but he would have to do this someday. "Owlpaw, as you know, there was a battle. We have few herbs. I must stay here and treat the cats with the little amount that we have, but it will not be enough. You need to go find a healthy warrior and see to it that you find every herbs that you can. I know that I won't be there, but I trust you to remember what herbs do what, and where they grow. When you get back after that, you can help me heal these cats." he instructed.
The you cat looked up at him nervously before going to find a healthy warrior and leaving. With a small sigh, Cloudrunner again entered the den, though it was almost like his den, and got the few herbs that they still had. He procede to call the injured cats to an orderly line, and he treated a few of the more injured ones. They were out quickly though, and Cloudrunner told them that he'd announce for them to come back when Owlpaw was back.
Having finished, he decided that he would search out Owlpaw and follow him, for a third set of eyes was never bad. He left camp and opened his mouth, catching the scent of Owlpaw. He stayed on trail, until he heard a rustling in the trees. It was getting a bit dark, and Cloudrunner shrank back. However, when he looked up to see what it was, it was an owl. Maybe more than a simple coincidence.
He stared at the owl, knowing that this was a sign from Starclan. If the owl dropped dead, he'd have to start looking for a new apprentice. Anything could happen. The owl just looked down, with a knowing look on it's face, and flew away. Gently, as if time had slowed for just a moment, a striped feather glided to the ground, landing on the frost. Gingerly, he padded over to it.
He looked down at it, thinking hard. What did this mean? Suddenly, a wind whipped up around him, almost engulfing him, and cutting him off from the rest of the world. It was all a darkish grey, with the terrible noise, yet he was uneffefcted. He heard a whisper, loud as if was in his ear, but he could see no cat. "The owl's feather has fallen on frosted ground," said the voice.
He looked up, and everything was just as it had been. Nothing was out of place. He shook his pelt, quivering, and looked around. All was well. Shaking his head, he opened his mouth to find Owlpaw. Then, he knew that it was Starclan's sign.
