Shadestar stood below his cold, frozen branch. Wind whipped at his pelt along with snowflakes. The weather had recently turned terrible, and there was a blizzard in full swing this dawn. Shadestar had the cover of a pine tree. Snow clung to his fur as he began announcing:
"All Clan cats report outside for a Clan meeting!" Sighs and groans could be heard as Shadestar called. Most cats dashed out of their dens, and under pine trees, taking cover from some snow. Most followed, but a few sat out. "I am sorry to take you all from your dens in such weather. But a few things must be done. We still need to patrol and hunt this morning. If nobody will volunteer, I'll force some cats to do it. However, first I have some pressing news that must be said before I advance,"
Shadestar's eyes followed the crowd, and he nodded his head at Ravenpaw. "Ravenpaw, while out on a hunt two dawns ago, noticed twolegs. They had terrible thing with teeth that killed trees. I observed them, and they only cut down a few trees before leaving. I believe that they may be making nests in distant places with them: I see no other reason for them to be taken. They're taking shorter trees, however, so you are in no danger of being crushed. They only cut for about a run around the territory, so we should be fine. The twolegs pose no threat to you, but I'd suggest you stay hidden, in case they try capturing us. These things were present in the old forest, and they only cut down ThunderClan's trees a few times during the leaf cycle."
Shadestar nodded at Flamepaw and Ravenpaw, who were sitting close. "Today we honor two apprentices who have trained hard to become warriors. They have proven their loyalty to ShadowClan, and they will now get their warrior names."
"Flamepaw, we honor your spirit and loyalty to the Clan. Will you protect our Clan, even at the cost of your own life, and honor our sacred code?" Flamepaw nodded as cooly as an apprentice going through its last stage could. "Flameshade, in honor of your ability to hunt and fight unseen, but when you strike, you are far more dangerious than a wildfire." Shadestar nodded at his apprentice, who was now a warrior. They touched noses, and Flameshade walked away.
"Ravenpaw. We honor your service to the Clan, and your skill. I will ask; Will you honor the Clan code, and defend our Clan, even at the cost of your own life?" Ravenpaw nodded. Shadestar resumed. "Then, I call upon StarClan, and name you Ravenfeather. You are a gentle cat with a kind heart; and you have fallen from something great. The feather never floats far from its nest." Shadestar touched noses with Ravenfeather, who walked off, into the crowd.
"Flameshade and Ravenfeather will hold a silent vigil this moonhigh, and guard the camp against any intruders. After I finish this ceremony, I will meet Crowpaw in his den."
"Flameshade! Ravenfeather! Flameshade! Ravenfeather!" cats from ShadowClan cried. Most were happy to see the new warriors crowned.
Shadestar looked at the nursery. "Sablekit! It's high time you trained to become a warrior!" Shadestar watched as his nearly deaf kit was nudged out of the nursery, and walked over to him. She was rather big, and Shadestar managed to keep eye contact with her.
"Sablekit! It's high time you became an apprentice!" Shadestar yowled, louder than normal, but still in his strong voice. "By agreeing to become an apprentice, you also agree to go through harsh training, but the rewards of being a warrior will be great! Do you agree?!"
Shadestar looked down at the kit, who nodded happily. "Good. Then, your new name shall be Sablepaw!"
"Sablepaw! Sablepaw!" the entire Clan yelled, including a few FireClan cats. Other FireClan cats simply rolled their eyes, wondering why he would care for such a weak kit.
"That is all, ShadowClan! If you want to do the patrols, see me when I return to my den!"
