"Hrm." Crowstar hummed as he got up slowly. He'd lost a life during the night, as his mentor had visited him, but with that life. the illness had been taken away as well. Crowstar knew this, as he felt perkier than he had been.
However, the fate of Blackpelt was not so good. He was dieing in the warrior den. Crowstar had to choose a new deputy; however there were so many choices. He decided to rule out Drydusk and Shadewing, but... "d**n." Crowstar stood up.
There were not anough warriors. All but a few were sick. He rapped his claws on the floor as he lay down, thinking hard. There was Nightshade, but he was really sick too. It came down to Drydusk or Shadewing.
"Starclan... Why? Why do you give me such hard descisions?!" Crowstar moaned, standing up, and walking slowly out of his den. "All cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather." Crowstar called, as he received many looks.

Abyssus: [atrb=border,0,true][cs=7][bg=000000] (Yes, you clever newbies, Shadewing used to have a pink nose, and silver spots) Count: 412 Warrior: Shadewing the tired Involved: ShadowClan Notes: shadewing coming down with something?
The clan meeting call rang out into Shadewing's ears. He had been drowsy for the past couple of days, and he could only hope he wasn't starting to get sick. All he could do was hope that his charismatic brother didn't get some sort of windfall while he had been resting for the past three days-- honestly, Shadewing knew he felt like mousedung, and pretty much everyone knew how little he had been participating. His surface of himself and his own mind were complete mush. When he had said something at the fresh-kill pile, he had indeed said three words of gobble-gook, and then spoke properly.
Now that Shadewing thought of it, his head hurt. A lot.
It could have just been a lot of thoughts in his head. Or he could be sick. Maybe he would die. Shadewing's life had been plagued with worry for the past week or so. His life had been around nothing that wasn't worrisome for a good percentage of each day. A good guess would be 18 hours was spent worrying. Two hours of not thinking about anything bad, four of sleep. Four hours wasn't much for a warrior, but Shadewing couldn't grasp sleep for the whole past moon. Until recently, he didn't have any real reason that he hadn't been dealing with for a long time, but that could have explained why he wasn't doing well.
Now, as this meeting call ended, cats were already on their way to get in. Shadewing made his way, indeed, but he was so tired and weak feeling, he couldn't take it. The meeting call just completely made his ears ring, and his head hurt more than ever. Crowstar's voice was a thousand falcons to Shadewing, each cat approaching the bird a hungry, crying chick of theirs.
Shadewing sort of dragged himself along, which wasn't the way to go by it, but Shadewing needed to get to the meeting no matter what.. if he had to crawl to it he would.
So, Shadewing plodded along until he reached the second row of cats, where he sat and slouched down, inattentive at this point. Probably the meeting would be new warriors or new apprentices. Shadewing would applaud like a good cat would if that was the case.
But he had not the faintest idea this one meeting was one that could forever change his life.

"Cats of Shadowclan." Crowstar called. "I have reason to believe that Blackpelt shall not survive the disease, so it has come to my attention that we are in need of a deputy. It was not an easy choice, but one warrior shone beyond any other."
Crowstar's eyes flickered between Drydusk and Shadewing. Drydusk had the mind, but not the courage and strength. That was what Shadewing had. Yes, they were still young, but they both had apprentices, and so far Grethpaw had experienced more, even though his mentor appeared to be resting for a while.
"But first, Grethpaw, step forward." Grethpaw did so. "I'm fed up of your name, so I am renaming you Firepaw, for the fire within your soul burns brightly in the darkness of this disease." Crowstar smiled at his son.
"I apologize to any of you who are disappointed of this result... But I have finalised my decision." Crowstar cleared his throat. "My next deputy is Shadewing."

[atrb=border,0,true][cs=7][bg=000000] Count: 633 Warrior: Shadewing the proud Involved: ShadowClan Notes: do I rp Grethpaw or you? I've been confused about ownership for a while now, as we both seem to be controlling him a little bit x3 Shadewing leaned forward at what Crowstar had been saying. Shadewing sneezed and coughed at the same time after Crowstar had finished what he first said-- about a warrior rising above the rest and standing out. Oh.. he must be talking about deputies.. well, Drydusk is pretty wise unlike a lot of us in ShadowClan.. Shadewing's gaze flickered around the camp. so yeah, I can see him standing out.. ugh..whatever.. As Shadewing listened to Crowstar address Grethpaw, it was quite a thing to hear.. His name was going to be changed. Good for Crowstar, Grethpaw was a little strange on the tongue. Firepaw was a much better name.. it was a name of legends too, after the mighty and brave Firestar. That was who Firepaw was going to be when he graduated. Why, Firepaw already knew the Warrior Code word for word, and he could even tell which rule was what number! Firepaw would be a loyal warrior, no doubt, and Shadewing would teach him a thing or two when spring rolled around.. the ducks were already returning, and Shadewing would teach him how to deal with geese. Shadewing snorted a little bit of laughter about his encounter with a goose and its goslings once, where Sandfire had completely saved his ass. Shadewing quickly coughed after wards to cover up his random noise. Didn't want Crowstar to think he was being disrespectful of his apprentice. "I apologize to any of you who are disappointed of this result... But I have finalized my decision." Shadewing lowered his head, heart pounding. He hadn't spent much time on the clan, only on his apprentice, he had been lying around, Shadewing was completely unprepared and-- "My next deputy is Shadewing." And words could not describe the joy and jolt of energy that made his head jolt up in a split second, and then make his legs quiver. Crowstar was joking! Not him, out of all cats! Shadewing had tried too hard, this was planned to have ended in tragedy for Shadewing! Shadewing, since Drydusk went to the gathering as leader, had been thinking of ways to cope when he wasn't picked, something to hang onto and cope with, to avoid his own death from suicide. Shadewing's head was whirling with thoughts. Me? ME? Out of this whole clan, Crowstar picked ME! I can't believe it! I know I always didn't think much of Drydusk, but this was sure to end badly for me! But the tables have turned.. what should I do, what should I say.. what did Firestar do when he was taken up as deputy.. no.. those are kit tales... no, no.. I'll do what he did, and keep calm. And I'll talk to Drydusk afterwords.. He deserved this spot as well.. Shadewing took a breath, and opened his mouth. "Thank you Crowstar. I shall serve this clan as well as I can. Your wise judgment will not be a mistake." Shadewing bowed his head, still shaking a little bit. "I am honored." Shadewing took a look over at Drydusk, and wondered whether his brother would be happy of his achievement, or very upset. Shadewing sighed as he adverted his gaze. Could Drydusk believe this decision as much as Shadewing did? Shadewing knew he had tasks to accomplish right away. He had an apprentice to care for, and his deputy tasks. Shadewing knew he was to get back on track right away, and prove to ShadowClan and the cats at the upcoming gathering he was a real warrior, fit to be leader. That he and ShadowClan were strong. Shadewing hoped everything would go according to plan. Shadewing would do almost anything to keep his place, and eventually become Shadestar. Shadestar had a nice ring to it. |

Silktail: [atrb=border,0,true][cs=7][bg=black] Kit - Crowstar the better feeling // Dustpaw the devastated // Firepaw the proud Words - Notes - I think I'll give him a form =P
Crowstar nodded at Shadewing. He was a good choice, and if Drydusk took it badly, he'd have a word with him. He saw his daughter's face fall greatly, and Firepaw swell up with immense pride of his mentor, and smiled, and managed to not annoy his sister any more than she was.
~
Grethpaw - no, Firepaw - swelled up with pride as his mentor, the amazing Shadewing, was chosen for the deputy. His bright blue eyes looked up at his mentor, sparkling with pride and joy for his mentor, and for a second, his eyes sweeped to his sister, Dustpaw, who's face was falling greatly, and her eyes narrowing at her father and brother.
~
Dustpaw's face fell greatly as Shadewing was chosen for deputy instead of her Drydusk, the only cat she loved. Her face turned to scowl at her brother who was ready to explode with pride, and she let out a low growl. Her green eyes narrowed at her father and brother, and his mentor.
