Shadestar walked into camp slowly, making sure that his more injured could catch up. He counted each cat who entered, and made sure that everybody had survived. Good, things had been rough.
Wait, was he missing one? His heart dropped for a moment as he recounted all of his cats. Yes, he was missing one. Who is it? Oh god, we can't afford to lose another warrior.. please just say he's lagging behind..
Then his eye caught who he had been missing. His daughter, Sablepaw. She had retreated, and she was collapsed next to his den. Shadestar wandered over to where her black pelt was, ruffled by the winds. Leafbare was closer to ending than anything else, but..
"Sablepaw?" he said loudly, as soon as he noticed she wasn't breathing. Her body was cold, and covered in snow, as he nudged he a few times. He came over to her other side, and noticed her eyes wide open, covered with ice. Had she died due to Crowstorm's lack of care? Shadestar's matted and bleeding pelt bristled with thinking this.
There was a tom's voice from behind him, and he turned his head to look at who it was. Animal.
"She's been dead. Claws came into camp, and dropped her there. A ThunderClan cat got her, he assumed." Animal said, sadness aparent in his voice, but nowhere near as sad as Shadestar was.
Shadestar growled. "So, we run in there, making a point to not kill any of their warriors, and they still go and kill one of my cats? My daughter even, they all knew it, and they all knew that she was utterly helpless, from when I introduced her. Whatever cat did this is a heartless piece of foxdung," Shadestar still didn't really like FireClan's swears as much as he liked the old ones. Some FireClan cats didn't even understand what he was saying when he started swearing.
"Yeah, and I'm assuming Claws is right, because if you scent her, she stenches of ThunderClan, under the FireClan scent. " Animal meowed, as Shadestar gripped his limp daughter by the neck, and walked into his den, trying to dig another hole in the dirt.
The ground was frozen, so it took a lot of effort to make a simple, small hole. "I never should have sent her in there. She still would have been alive.."
"I doubt it. There was a, uh, savage dog in camp. How else did you think I got these wounds, fighting the harlots?" Animal said, going in the den to help build the hole further.
Shadestar looked at Animal, and was shocked at how he didn't realize how hurt he was. His paws were scraping lightly and painfully at the dirt, and his wounds had a thick paste on them.
"Get out of here, Animal. Go rest with Crowstorm. I can do this alone," Shadestar ordered angrily. Animal stayed there for a few moment, and then opened his mouth to protest, but after a hard stare from Shadestar, he limped to Crowstorm's den.
Damn ThunderClan. And with that orange kit of Ravensong's, and how their starting to grow so long legged and lithe, I think it's safe to say damned WindClan too.
